Kathleen and David

Taken from a very old black and white photo, this one is my paternal grandmother, Kathleen Phillips, neé Bartlett, holding her grandson, David Price in her back garden at 1 Hawkhurst Villas, affectionately known in the family as 1HV. A3 with an ink outline and watercolour.

Mum at Porthgwidden

Continuing to experiment with watercolour, this is an A3 portrait of my Mum staring at the sea from inside the Porthgwidden Cafe.

Portrait in a Foreign Pallete

A great exercise in copying another painter’s palette, thanks to my inspiring teacher, Lorella Tudor. A3, gouache.

Pensive?

December 2024: Confined to barracks for a couple of days while Mr P shakes off some germs. Finally, some time to get my paints out again. It was supposed to be in response to @taishanschierenberg ‘s portrait masterclass on @artistoftheyear but it doesn’t look anything like his demo! This one is A3 gouache on Strathmore.

Alison Hindley

Continuing my series of ‘power portraits’ of inspirational women who have had breast cancer, this drawing of my dear friend, Alison, is A3, coloured pencil.

Dad, Geraniums

An iconic photo of my Dad, taken in the Barbara Hepworth garden in St Ives translated into a portrait. A3 Strathmore, ink wash and coloured pencil. He loved geraniums, and anything to do with gardening.

Lilo Glow

Another one of those images that pulled me in. Gabi is always a ray of sunshine even when she isn’t on a lilo. This one is A3 acrylic – the first painting to come out of my new Wednesday painting group down in Brighton with the wonderful Denise Harrison.
